This molecule is an interesting example of silane for modification of glass, Si, and PDMS surfaces offering exciting possibilities for in situ surface engineering by its α-bromoester distal group as an initiator unit for atom transfer radical (ATR) polymerization. The α-bromobutyrate moiety is being widely used for efficient covalent attachment (Stefan Nuss et al. Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2001)
