Company

ProChimia Surfaces is a privately held company established in 2001 and located in Gdansk area, Poland. Capitalizing on interdisciplinary expertise in the fields of chemistry and  nanotechnology ProChimia delivers state-of-the-art solutions for chemical and biochemical modification of various types of surfaces and materials. Our business has three main components:

(i) We develop and market chemicals for functionalized self-assembled monolayers. Our selection is truly unique, and the compounds we design can be used to modify metals (gold, silver, platinum, copper, etc.), glass, silicon, oxide, or composite surfaces. The thiols, dithiols, dithiolanes, silanes, catechols and coupling reagents we provide are rigorously tested for purity and efficiency. The SAMs (Self-Assembled Monolayers) formed by our chemicals impart the surfaces being coated various properties including bioresistance to non-specific binding of proteins or cells, reactivity toward specific molecules, controlled hyrdophobicity, electrochemical or optical activity, switchability, and more.

(ii) We develop and market a selection of monodisperse metal (Au, Ag, Cu, Pt, Pd) and iron oxide nanoparticles functionalized with various ligands: charged, pH-sensitive, biospecific, etc. (please visit our Nanoparticle Boutique)

(iii) We offer comprehensive custom research services in the fields of chemical- and nano-synthesis. We work closely with our clients to ensure that their scientific needs are fully met.

Our facilities dedicated to nano-composite production and Renewable Energy Research and Development are located at PPNT (Pomeranian Science and Technology Park) in Gdynia.

ProChimia Team

ProChimia a team of experienced and enthusiastic chemists, chemical engineers, biochemists and geneticists. Our scientists are among the best in Central Europe. Every Ph.D. on our team has at least two years of post-doctoral experience in renowned US or EU institutions. Our technicians all boast M.Sc. degrees. We employ only the most accomplished and motivated scientists. Attracting talent from leading academic institutions in Poland is possible because we create an intriguing and stimulating environment for professional and personal growth.

Our Customers

Our products are used by over 2,000 organizations worldwide in fields ranging from chemistry and material science, through molecular diagnostics and biosensors, to micro- and nanotechnology. The list of our clients includes prestigious academic institutions (Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, Oxford, ETH, etc.) as well as the leading hi-tech companies (Intel, Fuji, IBM, Qiagene, and more...

Research Projects

We have over a 20-year-long experience in reaserch project management and performnace both privately and externally funded. Our scientists succesfully run the research funded by European Comission under the 7th Framework Programme and Horizon 2020 research and innovation initiatives, including:

  • "Sustainable and integrated production of liquid biofuels, bioenergy and green chemicals from glycerol in biorefineries" (GLYFINERY - 7FP, 2008-2012). This international large cooperative project combined our expertise in surface engineering with research on renewable energy source. Our research generated protected IP adressing the purification of bio-fuels and recovery of "green chemicals" produced from biomass;

  • "Nanofacturing - The Development of Medium and Large-Scale Sustainable Manufacturing Process Platforms for Clinically Compliant Solid Core Nanopharmaceuticals" (NANOFACTURING - HORIZON 2020, 2015-2018). The project is a step ahead for the GMP process development and manufacturing of nanopharmacueticals, aimed at the efficacious and cost effective manufacture of gold core nanoparticles coupled with APIs for clinical use and successful administration in humans both clinical and ultimately commercial scale. ProChimia Team has developed GMP prooven routes of synthesis of glycan mimmicking ligands for Nanofacturing platform. Chosen selection of there product is available in the Thiolated Carbohydrates section of SAMs reagents Catalogue.

  • "EVO-NANO"  Evolvable platform for programmable nanoparticle-based cancer therapies (EVO-NANO  HORIZON2020-FETOPEN-1-2016-2017) aimed to create an integrated cross-disciplinary platform for the artificial evolution and assessment of nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems. Nanoparticles (NP) are continously being studied in cancer research for their ability to improve diagnosis accuracy and deliver tailored treatments directly to tumours. We have developed and synthesized several combinations of tailored metalic core nanoparticles with dedicated backgrounds and API to teach the AI EVO-NANO algorithms for in silico design of advanced drug delivery candidates. Selected examples of project obtained nanoconstructs are available in our Nanoparticles Boutique

  • "I-GENE" In-vivo Gene Editing by NanotransducErs (I-GENE H2020-FETOPEN-2018-2019-2020) A Futire Enabling Technology Project proposes a new concept of genome engineering based on nanotransducers (NT), which aims to make safe previously impracticable applications of genome editing and transcriptional regulation by Cas9. The methodology is based on laser-activation of a NT, which triggers a thermo-switchable double strand DNA break or cleavage. The proposed technology implements a concept of multi-input AND gates, where the output (gene editing) is true if multiple inputs are true. In this project ProChimia Surfaces team constructs the nanotansducers capable of performing the safe gene editing in the in vitro set ups. The project proceedings can be followed at

  • Waste Value WasteValue is a collabortove research project funded under Norway Grants programme. Its main focus is circular economy and resource recovery by deployment of integrated bioprocessing to recovery processes to formulate a substitute for A-1 jet fuel, natural gas and agriculture fertilizers. Based on our previous experience and IP, ProChimia Surfaces  scientists design and test the optimal set of recovery techniques to isolate the medium length chain carboxylic acids form the fermentation broths.

ProChimia Surfaces is currently running several commercial projects aiming product formulation and production process development.
